Happy Independence Day Everyone!!! Maddie is ready to roll!
July 3 is the big fireworks extravaganza and celebration in the town where Jeff and Jeremy and their families live. The story goes that in the early days of the town's history there weren't enough funds in the city coffers for fireworks on July 4 but they could get a discount if they had a fireworks show on July 3. And so a wonderful tradition was born!
Jeff and Caroline live about a 15-minute walk from the park where everything takes place so it's the perfect location to gather. Strollers and wagons are loaded up. Everyone grabs chairs, blankets, coolers and off they go. Everyone gathers in the late afternoon and there's lots going on. Fun rides, bouncies, face painting, all kinds of things for kids. Music, frisbees, football, food vendors (there's a great story about me getting kettle corn - but that's for another time!) picnics, and LOTS of friends to talk with. The park is filled with thousands of people. It is SO MUCH fun - everyone decked out in red-white-blue! Then when it's dark, the fireworks begin! What a display! Truly a celebration!
I wish our town would do something like this!!! INSTEAD our city fathers allow fireworks in the neighborhoods from June 29-July 4 (or maybe 5??). It's like a firecracker shelling every night until 11pm!! Really now, this is nuts. Let's do it "RIGHT" and do something the community can take pride in! OK, I'm off my soapbox now! :)
Have a fun day everyone!
